Mr. Higgins is an accomplished personal injury and FELA lawyer who, in his many years of practice, has negotiated large settlements and tried multiple complex personal injury cases to jury verdict. In the early years of his legal practice, Mr. Higgins gained valuable experience trying personal injury cases at two major Chicago law firms, where he represented construction companies, railroads, product manufacturers, and individuals who had suffered catastrophic injuries.

After leaving the large law firms and starting his own personal injury practice in 1995, Mr. Higgins has concentrated on representing railroad and construction workers, people who have been seriously injured in automobile accidents and slip and fall accidents, as well as victims of medical malpractice and nursing home abuse and neglect.

As a personal injury lawyer, here are highlights of a few of the cases Peter Higgins has resolved include:

  • $2.45 million for locomotive engineer who jumped from a moving train when a collision with another train looked imminent, injuring his back, shoulder and leg
  • $2 million against a local hospital and grocery store after a woman fell in the store then was released by the hospital and later became paralyzed from the waist down
  • $1 million for a waitress in the dining car of a train who injured her shoulder when the train took a sharp turn and threw her against a wall
  • $1.2 million for a 40-year-old railroad worker who suffered a serious back injury
  • $1 million for the family of a woman that died on the operating room table while having a revision tracheostomy surgery performed
  • $700,000 for a 28-year-old construction worker who suffered a broken leg on the job
  • $425,000 for a 78-year-old woman who fell and broke her hip at a nursing home
  • $280,000 for a railroad worker who suffered a head injury while working on a train
  • $500,000 for a construction worker who suffered severe emotional and psychological injuries when a piece of steel landed inches from his head after falling several hundred feet from up above him where other construction workers were working
  • $475,000 for a truck driver who injured his knees after his truck slammed into a cement barrier wall that slid off the back of another truck ahead of him
  • $340,000 for a truck driver who was hit on top of the head and shoulder by a dock door while making a delivery
  • $275,000 for a train attendant who was attacked by a passenger while making a bed in another passenger's room.

In addition, Mr. Higgins is listed in the 2002 edition of Who's Who in Executives and Professionals, and has received two Distinguished Service Awards from Chicago Volunteer Legal Services for his work to help disadvantaged people obtain high-quality legal counsel.
